Vintage Cherub Candelabra | French Rococo 3-Arm Candle Holder with Dancing Putto Figure, c. Late 19th Century
Vintage Cherub Candelabra — French Rococo 3-Arm Candle Holder
A Spirited Figure Holding Light Aloft
This captivating three-arm candelabra is anchored by a finely cast figural stem — a dynamic, dancing putto (a classical cherub boy figure) rendered in the round, one arm raised triumphantly to support the candelabra above. The figure wears a wreath and a simple draped garment, and stands with one leg lifted in mid-stride, full of movement and life.
The scrolled Rococo-revival arms branch elegantly into three bobeches (candle cups) with flared, ribbed collars. The whole piece rests on a substantial round base decorated with bold relief scroll and wave motifs, with a small decorative fleur-de-lis style mark at the foot of the stem — a maker's or foundry mark worth further research.
Condition
Good antique condition consistent with age. The dark patinated surface shows a rich, even tone with traces of green verdigris on the base — a hallmark of genuine aged bronze or spelter. A minor chip is present on the rim of one bobeche (candle cup), visible in the detail photographs. This does not affect function or overall display impact.
