Vintage Cristal d'Arques Crystal Pitcher | Diamond Hobnail & Flute Cut | French Crystal Jug, c. Mid-Late 20th Century
Vintage Cristal d'Arques Crystal Pitcher — France
Diamond Hobnail & Vertical Flute Cut — Original Label Intact
A beautifully proportioned crystal water or juice pitcher by Cristal d'Arques, the celebrated French crystal manufacturer from Arques-la-Bataille, Normandy. The original gold brand label remains intact on the body, confirming its provenance and quality.
The design is a masterclass in contrast: the lower bulbous body is covered in a dense, sparkling diamond hobnail cut — hundreds of precisely moulded pointed facets that catch and scatter light in every direction. Above, the body transitions through a band of pointed arches into a gracefully waisted neck decorated with clean vertical flute cuts, giving the upper half an elegant, elongated quality. A plain loop handle completes the form.
The silhouette — wide at the base, cinched at the waist, flaring again at the lip — is both sculptural and practical, with a generous capacity and a comfortable pour.
Provenance
Cristal d'Arques (now Arc International) has been producing fine crystal in northern France since 1825. Their mid-century pressed and moulded crystal pieces are widely collected for their quality, clarity, and classic French design sensibility.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or cloudiness. The crystal is brilliantly clear with strong light refraction throughout. Original gold label intact.
