Vintage Gmundner Keramik Lidded Jug | Blaupunkte Blue Dot Pattern | Ribbed Lobed Form with Lid | Model 560 O, c. Mid-20th Century
Vintage Gmundner Keramik Lidded Jug — Austria
Blaupunkte Blue Dot Pattern — Ribbed Lobed Form with Original Lid — Model 560 O
A beautifully complete ceramic lidded jug by Gmundner Keramik, Austria’s celebrated folk pottery tradition, decorated in the elegant Blaupunkte pattern — fine hand-painted navy blue polka dots scattered evenly across a crisp white ground, with a bold blue stripe at the rim. This is one of the most refined and timeless patterns in the Gmundner repertoire — quieter and more sophisticated than the Rotgeflammt, with a distinctly Central European folk-art character.
The jug is the sculptural Model 560 form: a ribbed and lobed body with vertical channels running from the bulbous base up through the waisted neck, a ruffled flared rim, and a generous loop handle. The original domed lid is present and intact — also decorated with blue dots and topped with a solid cobalt blue knob handle — making this a complete and more desirable piece than the jug alone.
The interior is plain white glaze with a blue rim stripe, and the lobed base is visible from above. The lid base is plain white with a small vent hole, as is typical of Gmundner construction.
Provenance
The base bears the authentic Gmundner Keramik diamond mark with model number 560 O, allowing precise identification within the Gmundner production catalogue. Gmundner Keramik has been produced in the lakeside town of Gmunden, Upper Austria since the 17th century.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks on either the jug or the lid. The glaze is bright and even throughout. The blue dot decoration is crisp and well-preserved. Fully functional for use or display.
