Antique Silver-Plated Charger / Presentation Plate | Neoclassical Egg-and-Dart & Bead Border | Hallmarked Reverse | approx. 30 cm diameter

A magnificent and highly decorative antique silver-plated charger plate in the finest Neoclassical tradition — the wide rim decorated with an exquisitely engraved egg-and-dart / lancet with bead motif, one of the most enduring and distinguished border patterns in the history of European decorative arts, derived directly from ancient Greek and Roman architectural ornament and adopted by the great silversmiths of the Empire and Biedermeier periods as the hallmark of refined table service.

The plate is of generous proportions — approx. 30 cm in diameter — with a mirror-bright silver-plated surface that reflects light with extraordinary brilliance. The wide flat rim, the gently recessed well, and the concentric moulded rings of the underside are all characteristic of high-quality European silver-plate production of the late 19th and early 20th century. The reverse bears hallmarks / maker's stamps — please review the close-up photo; further identification is welcomed.

As a charger plate, this piece was designed to be placed beneath the dinner plate at formal table settings — a tradition of aristocratic and upper-bourgeois dining that reached its peak in the late 19th century. Today it is equally at home as a decorative display piece: propped on a plate stand, hung on a wall, or used as a centrepiece tray for candles, fruit, or decorative objects.
